Jumhuri Mudara: Sima Samar, the former chairperson of Afghanistan independent human rights commission, has described the request for arrest warrants for Taliban leaders by the prosecutor of international criminal court (ICC) as a sign of attention to the human rights situation of women in Afghanistan.
Yesterday (Sunday, January 26th), Ms.Samar called the request for the arrest of Taliban leaders an important and positive step in a published statement.
She stated that this request delays the formal recognition of the Taliban and gives hope to Afghan women that human rights violations will not go unanswered.
Samar also congratulated the activists who worked toward this goal.
She emphasized that the Taliban must understand that human rights violations will not go unanswered.
She further warned that humanitarian aid should not be halted because of the Taliban’s actions, as the people of Afghanistan are grappling with poverty and unemployment.
Last week, the prosecutor of the international criminal court requested the arrest of the Taliban’s leader and the chief justice of the Taliban’s supreme court.
