Jumhuri Mudara: Despite attempts by several Afghan-origin immigrants in Australia to downplay the Hazara genocide in Afghanistan, the Australian Green Party has officially announced that it supports the calls of the Hazara community and international human rights groups to recognize the "genocide" of the Hazaras in Afghanistan.
In a statement issued today (Wednesday, April 23), the party said that with the return of the Taliban to power, the rights of Hazaras in Afghanistan have been suppressed.
In a statement, the party said it was proud to support the Hazara diaspora in Australia and called on the government to provide safety for those who have sought refuge in Australia and never deport them.
"We are committed to treating people who come to this country to find safety, to treating them with dignity and respect, and to ensuring a fair immigration system," the Greens statement said in part.
Australia's Green Party has expressed concern over the lack of action by the international community to prevent the genocide of Hazaras in Afghanistan, warning that this situation may lead to an escalation of the "genocide" of Hazaras in that country.
The party's statement called on the Australian government, as a signatory to the United Nations Convention against Genocide, to encourage investigations into human rights violations to prevent genocide.
The party has emphasized that it will continue to engage with the Hazara community in the 48th session of the Australian Parliament and will work to strengthen their voices.
Australia's Green Party has called on the government to increase the country's annual humanitarian reception capacity to 50,000 and to end the ban on accepting refugees from Indonesia.
This comes as thousands of Afghan refugees in Indonesia have been living in uncertainty for more than ten years.
