Closure of 130 children's educational classes in Logar: Thousands of children deprived of education

Jumhuri Mudara: In the continuation of widespread restrictions on education in Afghanistan, local sources in Logar province have reported that the Taliban-controlled education department has closed about 130 children's educational classes in the province.

These educational classes were funded by the non-governmental organization "WAIFA" in Khushi, Azri and Mohammad Agha districts of Logar province.

It is said that more than 3,091 children, including girls and boys, were educated in these classes up to the fifth grade.

Sources reported  on Monday (May 11) that the Taliban's education department officials have  ended the activities of these classes by collecting educational equipment.

The sources said with the closure of these educational centres, dozens of teachers have lost their jobs and hundreds of other children have been deprived of primary education.

Meanwhile,  sources in Paktika province have also announced the closure of 267 local education classes for young girls.

According to local sources, the equipment of these educational centers has been transferred to religious schools known as "jihadi schools".

Since returning to power in 2021, the Taliban have imposed increasing restrictions on girls' education.

The Taliban have banned the education of girls above the sixth grade and have also closed universities to female students.

The Taliban's recent actions have raised concerns about the future of children's education in Afghanistan and have drawn widespread reactions from international organizations and human rights defenders.
