JUMHURI MUDARA: The process of punishing and publicly flogging accused individuals by the Taliban has increased, with the group daily lashing suspects of both minor and major crimes in various parts of the country.
Investigations indicate that in the past week, the Taliban's Supreme Court has punished 17 people in several provinces for various crimes in front of public gatherings.
In a statement released by the Taliban's Supreme Court, is mentioned that only during the past week, two people in Jawzjan and Parwan, six in Ghor, two in Balkh, and five others in Khost province were flogged.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, December 1, the Supreme Court of the Taliban announced that only the previous day, five individuals, including a woman, were flogged in Khost province.
It was stated that these individuals were arrested on charges of "illicit relationships and sodomy" and were punished by local Taliban officials in Khost province.
According to the Supreme Court's statement, each of the accused received 39 lashes in public, and in addition to corporal punishment, two of the accused were sentenced to eight months of imprisonment each, while two others were sentenced to four years of imprisonment.
The Taliban stated that these individuals were arrested on various charges and that the punishments were carried out in public gatherings.
Among the individuals punished in several provinces last week, women were also included.
Since regaining power in Afghanistan, the Taliban have publicly flogged hundreds of citizens, including women, on charges such as "moral crimes," often in sports stadiums in front of thousands of people.
Over the past three years, the group has also publicly executed six men.
The executions and corporal punishments carried out by the Taliban have consistently faced criticism from the United Nations and human rights organizations, which have repeatedly urged the Taliban to halt such punishments. However, the Taliban have paid no attention to these requests.
